RAPID CITY, SD – Usher in the holiday season during the Holiday Celebration and Winter Market at Main Street Square in Downtown Rapid City, on Saturday, Nov. 26, from 2 to 6 p.m. The Holiday Celebration and Winter Market are free and open to all ages. The event is co-sponsored by Neugebauer’s Fine Jewelry and Northwestern Engineering Company.
Activities at the Square begin with a figure skating performance from Black Hills Figure Skating club at 10 a.m., followed by open ice skating at 11 a.m. At 2 p.m., Santa will make his grand entrance, escorted by a Rapid City Fire Department truck. From 2 to 5 p.m., children will have the opportunity to meet Santa, take photos with him, and tell him their wishes at the Santa House. Parents are encouraged to bring their own cameras for the photo opportunity, as a professional photographer will not be provided.
Shop the Winter Market from 2 to 6 p.m., which hosts a collection of local vendors where you are sure to find that perfect gift. Browse booths showcasing hand crafted goods, such as ornaments, jewelry, home décor, hand painted wooden signs, jams, jellies and salsas.
Enjoy the sounds of the season as The Potter Family gives a holiday concert from 3 to 5 p.m.
The holidays will be brought to life when Rapid City Mayor Steve Allender helps light the over 30-foot blue spruce tree during the Tree Lighting Ceremony promptly at 5 p.m. Mayor Allender has proclaimed Saturday, Nov. 26, as Small Business Saturday, joining the Rapid City Downtown Business Group in a nationwide effort to steer shoppers toward local independently owned businesses during the holiday season. He will present the proclamation in conjunction with the tree lighting.
“The Holiday Celebration at Main Street Square is the quintessential Downtown Rapid City holiday tradition,” said Megan Whitman, executive director of Main Street Square. “There is no better way to get into the spirit of the season.”
Visit the Smash Hits 105.7 booth, near the corner of Main and Sixth streets, for a free cookie and hot chocolate with a donation to Toys for Tots during their live broadcast from the Square at 2 to 4 p.m. The MIX 93.9 will broadcast live from the Square from 10 a.m. to noon. Tune in for the live Tree Lighting Ceremony on NewsCenter1.
Small Business Saturday coincides with the Holiday Celebration on Saturday, Nov. 26, encouraging community members to shop small and shop local in Downtown Rapid City. The Downtown Business Group will have a booth at Main Street Square during the Winter Market where patrons will be offered free coffee, Small Business Saturday reusable totes, and a guide to Small Business Saturday specials at participating businesses. Enjoy free parking all day in all Downtown public lots, metered spaces on the streets, and in the parking ramp near Main Street Square.
The 19th Annual Festival of Lights Parade begins at 6 p.m. and travels down Main St., next to the Square.
On Wednesday, Nov. 16, the tree will arrive at Main Street Square from a residence off Jolly Lane. A special thank you is extended to the tree donors, Rapid City Police Department, Baker Timber, D&W Crane for making this possible.
