Wildfire Awareness Week Kick-Off

We invite you to join local fire protection agencies for an afternoon of fun-filled events to be held at Rapid City’s Main Street Square on Sunday May 3rd, from 1 to 3:00 p.m. Governor Dennis Daugaard has proclaimed May as Wildfire Awareness Month in the State of South Dakota. The purpose of this effort is to bring attention to the dangers of wildfires and how citizens can protect themselves and their communities from these potentially devastating events.

This year's theme, Do Your Part Before the Wildfires Start encourages homeowners to take simple steps to reduce the impacts of wildland fire.

This event will feature informative displays and children's activities. Participants will be able to learn about wildfire risks and prevention methods.

Wildfire Awareness Month is a collaborative effort between local, state and federal firefighting agencies.
