RAPID CITY, SD – Destination Rapid City, Main Street Square and the Rapid City Police Department will host the 2015 Cruiser Car Show & Street Fair on Sunday, July 12. This year’s event will take place Downtown from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in its fifth year.
Classic cars will roll into the Downtown area with parts of Main, Sixth and Seventh streets traffic-free as cruisers park and stay to show off the cars. In addition, attendees can enjoy a family-friendly street fair with free entry that includes vendors, live music and other entertainment.
New this year is a swap meet on Sixth St., with parts, cars, trucks memorabilia, auto services and all else auto-industry related.
The Rapid City Police Department K-9 Unit will perform a demonstration at 10 a.m. at Main Street Square, and Elvis will take the stage at 11 a.m. Headlining band DD & the Fayrohs will perform on the Main Street Square Stage at 12:30 p.m. The Regional Health Kidz Zone will open at 10 a.m.
The Kasey Kahne - #5 Great Clips NASCAR car will be on display and Drag Racer Carly Jo Ellingson, winner of the Champion Spark Plug 2015 Search for a Champion, will be on the Square to meet event goers.
Awards will go to the top cars at 2:30 p.m., with Mike Modrick as emcee. Rapid City Police Chief Karl Jegeris and Domico Rodriguez from the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau will present special awards.
“This is a day of true, classic family fun,” said Megan Whitman, executive director of Main Street Square. “From showing off or admiring cars from many classes and taking in the event entertainment, to shopping and dining, the whole family will enjoy this show!
Kids’ activities, food vendors serving breakfast and lunch, and a beverage garden are all available near Main Street Square.
Those who wish to bring a car are asked to pre-register at www.MainStreetSquareRC.com. Pre-registration is $15, and the deadline is July 9. Participants may also register the day of the event for $20. Each car registration comes with a limited edition t-shirt and one entry into a prize drawing.
Participants in the car show are asked to enter the event area on the corner of Main and Fifth streets. Parking attendants will guide drivers to their parking spaces within the closure area.
Car show spectators are encouraged to park in the city parking ramp, which can be accessed from Fifth St., or the city parking lot south of St. Joseph Street between Fifth and Sixth streets. Curbside parking is also available south of St. Joseph Street and east of Fifth Street.
Street closures will include Main Street between Fifth Street and Mount Rushmore Road, Seventh Street between Apolda and St. Joseph, and Sixth Street between Apolda and St. Joseph St. General public parking within the event closure area will be prohibited after 7 a.m., as the area will be designated for car show participants until 4 p.m.
