RAPID CITY, SD – The first-ever spring beer tasting event has been set at Main Street Square for Saturday, May 10, from noon to 3 p.m. Frühlingfest is sponsored by Family Thrift Center, Prairie Market and Firehouse Brewing Company.

Frühlingfest, German for springfest, will be similar Main Street Square’s Bierbörse, but on a smaller scale. The event will have a tasting with 30+ beers, a beverage garden, acoustic music and homebrew information.

The event is free and open to all ages. Only those 21 years of age and older, with a valid ID, may consume alcohol. Main Street Square promotes drinking responsibly.

A ticketed microbrew tasting with more than 30 beers will be open from noon to 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and at the event, and are available online at, by calling (605) 716-7979 or at the Main Street Square office at 512 Main St., Ste. 980. A limited number of tickets are available, and pre-sale ends on Friday, May 9. Ticketed customers will receive a pilsner acrylic glass, and may have unlimited samples during that time.
The CoPoetics will provide live folk/acoustic Indie rock music. Visit the Ale Riders Homebrew tent for information on entering the 2014 homebrew competition.
“This event was designed as a special edition event after Bierbörse was cancelled in October 2013 due to the blizzard, to give beer enthusiasts a special tasting event prior to Bierbörse 2014,” said Megan Whitman, executive director of Main Street Square. “This event will continue to celebrate German culture, gives an opportunity to taste the summer-inspired seasonal beers.”

The Bud Light Beverage Garden will be open to the public beginning at 11 a.m. and available to those who do not wish to purchase a tasting ticket. Tastings begin at noon.

Frühlingfest is held in conjunction with Main Street Square’s Spring Market, open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
