RAPID CITY, SD – Downtown Rapid City’s outdoor ice skating rink is projected to open at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23.
Main Street Square staff members are currently working to transform the lawn into the ice skating rink, and the area is not open to the public.
The rink is open daily. Hours vary and may change due to weather and event schedules. The most up-to-date information can be found at www.MainStreetSquareRC.com.
“The ice skating rink has really become a community gathering place in the winter months,” said Megan Whitman, Main Street Square executive director. “Families from two-year-olds to grandparents share in the delight and joy. They then shop and dine Downtown, supporting local businesses.”
Main Street Square’s ice skating rink is in its third season of operation. The rink is larger than New York City’s Rockefeller Center, and is in the center of Main Street Square, which opened in October 2011.
The first event to utilize the ice skating rink is the Holiday Celebration on Saturday, Nov. 30. Horse-drawn carriage rides, figure skating performances, visits with Santa, family entertainment and the tree lighting ceremony will take place between 1 and 6 p.m., with a special holiday concert by The Potter Family from 3 to 5 p.m.
The event is held in conjunction with the Rapid City Downtown Association’s Small Business Saturday and the Festival of Lights Parade at 6 p.m.
