About the Square

Main Street Square is in the Heart of Downtown Rapid City. 
This open civic space was made possible by the generous support of foundations, corporations, businesses, and individuals. It is for the enjoyment of area residents and tourists to the Black Hills.

Main Street Square is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization that manages the space and leases the property from the City of Rapid City.

Our Mission
We are a nonprofit organization in the heart of Downtown Rapid City that connects the community together in all facets through events, art, and culture for a more vibrant city center.

Our success will ensure:

  • Community members will feel connected, have a sense of pride, drawn to visit, and love where they live
  • Downtown business will grow and prosper
  • Community groups will use the plaza as a platform for communication by hosting events, volunteering, vending, performing, contributing, and getting involved
  • Visitors will feel as if they are locals 
  • Revitalization will occur surrounding the plaza through private and public efforts, such as living spaces, beautification efforts, historic restoration, and economic development
  • Downtown Rapid City has a heartbeat

Park Guidelines
Main Street Square invites you to enjoy this public space in the heart of Downtown Rapid City.

This civic open space was made possible by the generous support of the community. It is for the enjoyment of our local community and its visitors, today, and for generations to come.

Patrons of the Square are welcome to: 

  • Use the park chairs, tables, and benches within the park.
  • Enjoy and touch the water features without entering the cascade area (only the interactive fountain is for public use).
  • Appreciate the gardens without entering flowerbeds or picking flowers.
  • Clean up after yourself by depositing waste in the trash and recycling receptacles. 

Main Street Square prohibits:

  • Smoking, vaping, or outside alcohol.
  • Pets.
  • Panhandling and soliciting. 
  • Climbing on granite, sculptures or trees.
  • Skateboarding, biking or rollerblading.
