Cruise into Downtown Rapid City for the Eighth Annual Cruiser Car Show & Street Fair

Classic cars will roll into Downtown Rapid City on a new date and time at the eighth annual Cruiser Car Show & Street Fair on Saturday, July 14, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., presented by the Rapid City Police Department, Main Street Square and Destination Rapid City. Cruiser Car Show & Street Fair is sponsored by Auto Body Specialties and Pioneer Bank & Trust. Progress Sponsor, The Hotel Alex Johnson.

Step back in time as you stroll up and down the streets of Main, Sixth, and Seventh, which will be traffic-free for the family friendly street fair and auto showcase. The Rapid City Police Department will hold a presentation at 4:30 p.m. at Main Street Square followed by a live performance from Abbey Road at 5 p.m. As you take in the classics shop the swap meet or local businesses. Children can enjoy the Regional Health and Scull Construction Kidz Zone, including the Main Street Square Fun Express train and inflatable bounce houses. Grab something to eat from a variety of food trucks or a downtown restaurant. Enjoy an assortment of refreshments from the Bud Light Beverage Garden beginning at 4 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Pre-register your vehicle for $15 online here. You may also pre-register in person or by mail to the Main Street Square and Destination Rapid City office, located at 512 Main St., Ste. 980, Rapid City, SD 57701. All vehicles must be registered to be included in the judging. By pre-registering your vehicle, you are guaranteed a spot at Cruiser Car Show & Street Fair and will receive one Cruiser Car Show & Street Fair t-shirt in the size specified during registration. Pre-registration ends at noon on Thursday, July 12. Vehicles may also be registered the day of the event, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., for $20 per vehicle. Vehicles registered on the day of the event will receive one Cruiser Car Show & Street Fair t-shirt, subject to availability.

“Admire the unique story told by each automotive on display,” said Elizabeth Smith, events director of Main Street Square. “Dance to a live performance from Abbey Road, enjoy a RCPD presentation, play in the Kidz Zone, and watch the car awards ceremony. Cruiser has something for everyone in the family.”

Mike Modrick will be the master of ceremonies, in addition to special presentations awarded by Rapid City Police Department Police Chief Karl Jegeris and Visit Rapid City. The Car Show Awards Ceremony begins at 8:30 p.m. Judging will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the following classes: Cars 1900 to 1949; Cars 1950 to 1959; Cars 1960 to 1969; Cars 1970 to 1979; Cars 1980 to 1989; Cars 1990 to 1999 Cars 2000 to 2009; Cars 2010 to present; Trucks 1900 to 1959; Trucks 1960 to present; Rat Rods; Orphans (vehicles that do not fall into any of the classes); Golden Donut (Chief’s choice); Bald Tire (traveled the farthest); and Kids’ Choice.

Street closures will include Main St. between Fifth St. and Mount Rushmore Rd., Seventh St. between Apolda and St. Joseph streets, and Sixth St. between Apolda and St. Joseph streets. Public parking within the event closure area will be prohibited after 1 p.m., as the area will be designated for car show participants until 10 p.m. Car show spectators are encouraged to park in the city parking ramp, which can be accessed from Fifth St., or the city parking lot south of St. Joseph St. between Fifth and Sixth streets. Curbside parking is also available south of St. Joseph St. and east of Fifth St. Participants in the car show will enter the event area on the corner of Main and Fifth streets. Parking attendants will guide drivers to their parking spaces within the closure area.
