More than 30 beers available at Main Street Square beer tasting

RAPID CITY, SD – Main Street Square’s third annual Frühlingsfest, a spring beer tasting and market event, is set for Saturday, May 21, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event is free to attend and open to all ages. Only those 21 years of age and older, with a valid ID, may consume alcohol. Main Street Square promotes drinking responsibly. Frühlingsfest is sponsored by Holiday Inn - Rushmore Plaza.

Frühlingsfest, German for spring festival, will have a ticketed beer tasting with over 30 beers from noon to 3 p.m., including craft beers from local breweries. Frühlingsfest is held in conjunction with Main Street Square's Spring Market, open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., which features local food vendors, handmade artwork, jewelry and other specialty goods. The River Liffey Boys, a Blue Irish Grass band, will play live music throughout the event.

Tasting tickets can be purchased for $25 in advance or at the event. Ticketed customers will receive a souvenir pilsner glass and a wristband for unlimited beer samples from noon to 3 p.m. A limited number of Frühlingsfest tasting tickets are available. All pre-purchased tasting ticket holders will receive a free pretzel necklace.

Pre-order your tasting ticket to Frühlingsfest online for a chance to win two free tasting tickets to Bierbörse at Main Street Square on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016. The first 100 people to pre-order a tasting ticket for Frühlingsfest will be entered in a drawing. One name will be drawn after the pre-sale closes. The winner will be notified between noon and 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 20.

“The third annual Frühlingsfest is a spring celebration, focusing on craft beer from local and regional breweries,” said Megan Whitman, executive director of Main Street Square. “This year’s event is an opportunity to taste summer-inspired seasonal brews as well as beers from new breweries coming to our area.”

The Black Hills Beer Beverage Garden, a division of Eagle Sales, will be open to the public beginning at 11 a.m. and available to those who do not wish to purchase a tasting ticket.

A free shuttle will be provided to pick up Frühlingsfest participants at Ellsworth Air Force Base and drop them off at Main Street Square. The shuttle pick up times will be at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. at Bandit Lanes at Ellsworth Air Force Base. The shuttle will drop patrons off at the Bus Depot in downtown Rapid City. Transportation from Main Street Square back to Bandit Lanes will be provided at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. at the Bus Depot located at 333 Sixth St. This free shuttle is available to Military ID card holders only.

Enjoy free parking all day in all Downtown public lots, metered spaces on the streets, and in the parking ramp near Main Street Square on Saturday, May 21.
