Sixth Annual Cruiser Car Show & Street Fair set for July 10

RAPID CITY, SD – Classic cars will roll into Downtown Rapid City for the sixth annual Cruiser Car Show & Street Fair set for Sunday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., sponsored by Auto Body Specialties, PPG Automotive Refinish, and Pioneer Bank & Trust.

Walk up and down parts of Main, Sixth and Seventh streets, which will be traffic-free for the family-friendly street fair auto showcase presented by Main Street Square, Destination Rapid City and the Rapid City Police Department. This event is free and open to the public.

Pre-registration is now open for those who would like to show off their car. Vehicles may be registered online at http://mainstreetsquarerc.com/cruiser-car-show.html, by mail to the Main Street Square and Destination Rapid City office at 512 Main St., Ste. 980, Rapid City, SD 57701, or the day of the event. All vehicles must be registered to be included in the judging. Pre-register your vehicle online or by mail for $15 per vehicle. By pre-registering your vehicle, you are guaranteed a spot at Cruiser Car Show & Street Fair and will receive one Cruiser Car Show & Street Fair t-shirt, in the size specified on the registration form. Pre-registration ends at noon on Thursday, July 7. Vehicles may also be registered the day of the event for $20 per vehicle from 8 to 11 a.m. Each registration on the day of the event includes one Cruiser Car Show & Street Fair t-shirt, subject to availability. There will be random prize drawings during registration on the day of the event. 

The Rapid City Police Department K-9 Unit will hold a demonstration at 10 a.m. at Main Street Square followed by live music from The Atomic Drifters, a traditional rockabilly band, at 11 a.m.

Shop the swap meet. Experience children’s activities in the Regional Health and Scull Construction Kidz Zone, including the Main Street Square Fun Express train and inflatable bounce houses. View and take pictures with Kasey Kahne's #5 Great Clips NASCAR car. Food vendors will be onsite offering an array of eats throughout the event. An assortment of refreshments will be available in the Bud Light Beverage Garden beginning at 11 a.m.

“Attendees will be captivated by the fascinating collection of cars showcased up and down the streets of Downtown Rapid City,” said Megan Whitman, executive director of Main Street Square. “The live music, K-9 demo, and swap meet in addition to the vibrant shopping and dining at hand, make Cruiser Car Show & Street Fair a day of classic family fun Downtown.”

First place trophies will be awarded by Rapid City Police Department Police Chief Karl Jegeris at 2:30 p.m. during the Car Awards Ceremony. Judging will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the following classes: Cars 1900 to 1949; Cars 1950 to 1959; Cars 1960 to 1969; Cars 1970 to 1979; Cars 1980 to 1999; Cars 2000 to present; trucks 1900 to 1959, trucks 1960 to present; Rat Rods; Orphans (vehicles that do not fall into any of the classes); Golden Donut, Chief’s Choice; Bald Tire (traveled the farthest); and Kids’ Choice.

Street closures will include Main St. between Fifth St. and Mount Rushmore Rd., Seventh St. between Apolda and St. Joseph streets, and Sixth St. between Apolda and St. Joseph streets. Public parking within the event closure area will be prohibited after 5 a.m., as the area will be designated for car show participants until 5 p.m. Car show spectators are encouraged to park in the city parking ramp, which can be accessed from Fifth St., or the city parking lot south of St. Joseph St. between Fifth and Sixth streets. Curbside parking is also available south of St. Joseph St. and east of Fifth St. Participants in the car show will enter the event area on the corner of Main and Fifth streets. Parking attendants will guide drivers to their parking spaces within the closure area.
