RAPID CITY, SD –Upon request from the Rapid City Downtown Business Group, the City of Rapid City approved a special event permit for free parking in Downtown Rapid City on the following upcoming Saturdays: Nov. 28, Dec. 5, Dec. 12 and Dec. 19.
The permit includes free parking in all Downtown lots, metered spaces on the streets and in the parking ramp near Main Street Square and allows last-minute holiday shoppers a convenient shopping and dining experience Downtown, without having to move a vehicle.
“Support your local small businesses in Downtown Rapid City and celebrate the holiday season while enjoying free parking,” said Dan Senftner, president and CEO of Destination Rapid City. “Complete your holiday shopping, grab a bite to eat, visit a gallery or see a show. You can really spend the entire day Downtown.”
Parking restrictions will be enforced in preparation for the Festival of Lights Parade Saturday, Nov. 28 On-street parking on Main and St. Joseph streets from Fifth to Seventh streets, and also on Seventh St. between Main and St. Joseph streets will be affected by the parade route. The closure has been delayed until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28 to allow customers convenient parking for Small Business Saturday. Vehicles parked on the street in between fifth and seventh streets of the parade route will be towed if they are not moved by 5 p.m. The parade starts at 6 p.m. and traffic will be restricted beginning at 5 p.m. from East Boulevard to Seventh Street on Main and St. Joseph Streets until the parade concludes The Rapid City Police Department will cone off restricted parking spaces at their discretion.
Due to the holiday, the offices of Destination Rapid City, Rapid City Downtown Business Group and Main Street Square will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 24 and Friday, Dec. 25, in addition to Friday, Jan. 1, 2016. The Main Street Square ice skating rink will be closed on Friday, Dec. 25, and open on Thursday, Dec. 24, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday, Jan. 1, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
