Santa, Winter Market and Tree Lighting Ceremony for Annual Holiday Celebration

RAPID CITY, SD –Usher in the holiday season during the Holiday Celebration at Main Street Square in Downtown Rapid City, on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, from 1 to 6 p.m. The Holiday Celebration is free and open to all ages. The event is sponsored by NWE Management Company.

Activities at the Square begin with open ice skating at 10 a.m. Free horse-drawn wagon rides will run from noon to 4 p.m. The event starts at 1 p.m. with a figure skating performance by the Black Hills Figure Skating Club. The rink will be closed to the public from 12:30 p.m. until the performances are complete.

At 1 p.m., Santa will make his grand entrance, escorted by a Rapid City Fire Department truck. From 1 to 5 p.m., children will have the opportunity to meet Santa, take photos with him, and tell him their wishes at the Santa House. Parents are encouraged to bring their own cameras for the photo opportunity, as a professional photographer will not be provided.

Visit the Black Hills Dance Theatre’s Nutcracker Character booth beginning at 1 p.m. There will be opportunities to take photos with the performers in their costumes.

Enjoy the sounds of the season as The Potter Family gives a holiday concert from 3 to 5 p.m. Join us as we bring the holidays to life at 5 p.m. when Rapid City Mayor Steve Allender helps light the 36-foot blue spruce tree during the Tree Lighting Ceremony.

Shop the Winter Market from 1 to 6 p.m., a collection of local vendors where you are sure to find that perfect gift. Browse booths featuring local and hand crafted goods, such as wreathes, ornaments, candles, hand painted wooden signs, and gift baskets.

Kids can enjoy the Main Street Square Fun Express Train in the Regional Health Kidz Zone. The train will run from 1 to 6 p.m., weather pending.

“The Holiday Celebration is a joyful time of year,” said Megan Whitman, executive director of Main Street Square. “Downtown becomes a winter wonderland, where our community revels in the magic of the season.”

Small Business Saturday coincides with the Holiday Celebration on Saturday, Nov. 28, encouraging community members to shop small and shop local in Downtown Rapid City. The Downtown Business Group will have a booth at Main Street Square during the Winter Market where patrons will be offered free hot chocolate and Small Business Saturday reusable totes. Enjoy free parking all day in all Downtown public lots, metered spaces on the streets, and in the parking ramp near Main Street Square.

The Festival of Lights Parade, beginning at 6 p.m., will be on Main St., next to the Square.

On Thursday, Nov. 19, the tree will arrive at Main Street Square from a residence off of Fox Run Drive.
