RAPID CITY, SD – A beer stock exchange will be set up at Main Street Square’s fourth annual Bierbörse, a German beer celebration, on Saturday, Oct. 4, from noon to 6 p.m., presented by 605 Magazine.
The fall event features a homebrew demonstration and tasting, musical entertainment by the Happy Wanderers, ticketed beer sampling, and the Black Hills Beer beverage garden featuring the stock exchange.
“The word Bierbörse translates to beer stock exchange in German, so we are going to run a stock exchange to have a true Bierbörse,” said Megan Whitman, executive director. “Main Street Square is one of the few establishments in the world to host a beer stock exchange.”
In the stock exchange, the price of beer will vary from $1 to $8, and price is dependent on demand. For example, if Crow Peak Pile O’ Dirt Porter is very popular, the price will rise. If no one is drinking Sam Adams Octoberfest, the price will plummet and possibly crash. When a beer’s value is low, it will cost a minimum of $1. If it is high in demand, it may cost up to $8.
The event is free and open to all ages. Only those 21 years of age and older, with a valid ID, may consume alcohol. Main Street Square promotes drinking responsibly.
A ticketed microbrew tasting with more than 60 beers will be open from 2 to 6 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the event. Advanced tickets are available until 10 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, online at www.MainStreetSquareRC.com, by calling (605) 716-7979 or at the Main Street Square office at 512 Main St., Ste. 980. A limited number of tickets are available. Ticketed customers will receive a sample-sized beer mug, and may have unlimited samples during that time.
The Ale Riders Homebrew Club will hold a demonstration and tasting from noon to 4 p.m. The public can taste and feel the ingredients that go into brewing a beer, drink free samples and vote for their favorite homebrew.
The Ale Riders host a homebrew competition in conjunction with Bierbörse, the deadline to enter is Sept. 12. The entries will be judged prior to the event with a cash prize going to Best in Show. There will be an award presentation at the event.
