Ribbon Cutting set for Memorial Park Promenade in cooperation with the Rapid City Rush

RAPID CITY, SD – This Rapid City Rush hockey season, park conveniently in Downtown Rapid City, shop and dine, then walk the Memorial Park Promenade before each game.

Destination Rapid City and Main Street Square are teaming up with the Rapid City Rush to promote the new Memorial Park Promenade and Rush Hockey this season.

A Ribbon Cutting and Lighting of the Trees is planned before the Friday, Oct. 31, home game. Beginning at 5 p.m., families are encouraged to visit the Rapid City Rush Foundation Kidz Zone in Memorial Park for free inflatables, candy and live entertainment. Children are encouraged to wear costumes for the Rush game.

Two more events are planned for the Memorial Park Promenade in the coming weeks. The City of Rapid City Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a dedication of the Memorial Park Promenade and Legacy Commons Playground on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 2 p.m., in celebration of South Dakota’s 125 years of statehood.

A special Veterans Day program has been planned for Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 9:30 a.m. at Memorial Park Promenade. An eagle statue created by James Van Nuys will be unveiled for the top of the Veterans War Memorial in Memorial Park. As part of the creation of the Memorial Park Promenade and Legacy Commons Playground, the memorial was moved to a more visible location and a flag pole was installed. The Veterans Day parade will follow at 11 a.m. on Main and St. Joseph streets in Downtown Rapid City.
