Bierborse tasting tickets on sale; event to feature polka and beer

RAPID CITY, SD – German culture will be celebrated at Main Street Square’s third annual Bierbörse, a German beer celebration, on Saturday, Oct. 5. The event begins at noon and ends at 6 p.m., and features a homebrew demonstration and tasting, a polka band, ticketed beer sampling and a beer garden.

The event is free and open to all ages, and sponsored by Neugebauer’s Fine Jewelry and Holiday Inn – Rushmore Plaza. Only those 21 years of age and older, with a valid ID, may consume alcohol. Main Street Square promotes drinking responsibly.

A ticketed microbrew tasting with more than 60 beers will be open from 2 to 6 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the event, and are available online at, by calling (605) 716-7979 or at the Main Street Square office at 512 Main St., Ste. 980. A limited number of tickets are available. Ticketed customers will receive a beer mug, and may have unlimited samples during that time.

Matt Hodek and the Dakota Dutchmen, a polka band based in North Dakota, will perform from 1:30 to 4 p.m., and 4:30 to 6 p.m. A dance floor will be available.

“The entire family can celebrate the German culture at Bierbörse, and adults have the opportunity to taste beer they may have not experienced before,” said Megan Karbowski, executive director of Main Street Square. “We are truly celebrating beer by having domestic, craft and home brews available.”

The Ale Riders Homebrew Club will hold a demonstration and tasting from noon to 4 p.m. The public can taste and feel the ingredients that go into brewing a beer, drink free samples available and vote for their favorite homebrew. A People’s Choice winner will be recognized at 4 p.m.

A homebrew competition is held in conjunction with Bierbörse. The entries will be judged before the event by judges who have completed the Beer Judging Certification Program. At 4 p.m. on Saturday, there will be an award presentation. The deadline to enter has passed.

From noon to 6 p.m., the Bud Light Beverage Garden will be open.
