Main Street Square serves as a community connection

RAPID CITY, SD – Main Street Square is connecting community organizations and businesses through its events in downtown Rapid City.

Nash Finch, with its stores Family Thrift Center and Prairie Market, was the entertainment sponsor at the Summer Concert Series at Main Street Square and the event series sponsor for Autumn Nights. In total, they sponsored 17 nights of activities each Thursday from June 6 to Sept. 26.

During that time, Nash Finch raised approximately $8,000 to benefit local nonprofit organizations including Youth & Family Services, the Children’s Miracle Network, the Rapid City Club for Boys, American Red Cross Black Hills Chapter and the Rushmore Rollerz roller derby team.

“Not only have Family Thrift Center and Prairie Market sponsored events to keep the activities free to the public, but they also donate proceeds to community organizations,” said Megan Karbowski, executive director of Main Street Square. “The products they sell are mostly food items that are affordable for the community. For example, they sell hot dogs for $1.”

During Autumn Nights on Sept. 26, Jimmy Sands of Nash Finch presented a check of $2,453.00 to Youth & Family Services and a check of $1,028.00 to the Rushmore Rollerz.

“We are happy to serve the community by acting as a catalyst between our sponsors and nonprofit organizations,” Karbowski said. “And it’s all happening in Downtown Rapid City.”
