The Independence Day Celebration at Main Street Square will honor past and present military personnel with musical performances and more on Thursday, July 4, from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Patriotic music will be presented by the Casper Troopers Drum and Bugle Corp, an ensemble with more than 100 members, at 4 p.m. The Rushmore Post 1273 Honor Guard of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will post and retire the colors at 5 p.m., with a performance of the National Anthem following.
At 5:30 p.m., Mike Morgan and the Crawl is featured as part of the Summer Concert Series, sponsored by Liberty Superstores with entertainment sponsors Family Thrift Center and Prairie Market. The blues and patriotic concert will feature special guests.
“Join us for an afternoon of music,” said Megan Karbowski, executive director of Main Street Square. “There’s nothing better than a patriotic concert and honoring those who have served while celebrating our country’s independence.”
Kids’ activities are available in Pedestrian Alley, similar to every Summer Concert Series, featuring chalk art, bean bag toss, four square, jump roping and more. Magic Mark will roam around the event performing sleight of hand tricks.
Immediately following the Mike Morgan and the Crawl performance, a video of fireworks discharged at Mt. Rushmore will play on the big screen.
The Fallen Hero Banners will also be displayed during the event. The memorial banners honor South Dakota military members who have given the ultimate sacrifice in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. The banner program is a voluntary participation program offered to all honored families in South Dakota. Each banner includes a photo and a brief biographical summary as selected by the Heroes’ families.
Food and beverages will be available from various vendors at Main Street Square.
