Main Street Square is breaking the rules for just one day for the second annual Jog for a Dog at Main Street Square, on Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is sponsored by Family Thrift Center and Prairie Market.

Highlights include dog demonstrations by the Wolf Pack Working Dogs at 11 a.m., and the Rapid City Police Department K9 Unit at 1 p.m. Tails n' Training will provide seminars at 10 a.m. and noon. Jog For A Dog, a one-mile walk/run, begins at 2 p.m. Families and individuals are encouraged to bring their leashed dog on a walk around Downtown Rapid City.

The cost is $10 for individuals 18 years of age and older, individuals 17 and younger may participate at no charge. Donations will also be accepted. Fifty percent of proceeds will go to the Humane Society of the Black Hills, and fifty percent will go to other local pet organizations.

"We bring this event to Downtown Rapid City with our own dogs in mind," said Main Street Square Executive Director Megan Karbowski. "We are here to celebrate animals who have families, and bring awareness to the ones who are still searching for homes. Bring your four-legged friend down for [FUN]²!"

Pet caricatures by Angi will be available, as well as keepsake photos by Pet Antics and Future Framed Photography. T and Bonnie's Grooming will offer free nail clipping, Safe Haven Pet Resort will have a watering station, and the Humane Society of the Black Hills will offer information on micro-chipping. Oglala Pet Project will have dogs available for adoption.

Other businesses and organizations with booths include Banfield Pet Hospital, Beautiful Mutts, Canyon Lake Veterinary Hospital, Dakota Hills Veterinary Clinic, Mother Hubbard's Cupboard, Mountain View Animal Hospital, Pet Giant and Rescues Unlimited.

Main Street Square staff reminds visitors that this is a special event, and dogs and other pets are not allowed in the fountains or on the oval lawn. On Saturday, only dogs are allowed in the Square and they must be on a leash. Pet owners are asked to keep the Square clean and pick up after their dogs.

The event is held in conjunction with Main Street Square's Spring Market, with local food, crafts and other items the same day, Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Spring Market vendors include A Sense of Wonderment, Dakota's Best, DB Reality Rocks, ES Jewelry and Crafts, Kelly's Cards, Koko Fit Club, Little Luxuries, Lizzie and Grace, Makaio Design, The Repurposed Artist, Skinny Cook Creations and Superior Siding.
