Ash Wednesday

Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016 | noon to 1 p.m.

Pastors from several local downtown churches gather from noon to 1 p.m. and from 5 to 6 p.m. on the corner of Main Street Square to offer the imposition of ashes and prayers for those who stop by.

We are present to celebrate the beginning of Lent, a time of preparation for the coming of Easter. The marking of the forehead with ashes is a sign of repentance and also reminds us of our mortality. The cross made on the forehead symbolizes that we belong to Christ. Prayers are also offered on behalf of those receiving ashes.
